"We didn’t have time to do anything. Nothing was taken out. We couldn’t take out the refrigerator, just the television. We didn’t think that the fire was going to be so devastating after passing so many times. There was a very changeable wind that not even a water pump or anything could defend our house."

"At the beginning we had gusts of approximately 70 kilometers (per hour) with a constant wind of 50 kilometers. That caused three very important fronts to form. One, like every interface fire, begins to burn everything that is part of the housing area. Unfortunately we are talking about many affected homes."

STORYLINE:
Decenas de brigadistas combatían el jueves un incendio en las inmediaciones de la localidad de Epuyén, en la Patagonia argentina, que ha devorado unas 1.800 hectáreas forestales y medio centenar de viviendas y obligado a la evacuación de cientos de personas. El incendio se propagó rápidamente por las fuertes ráfagas de viento. No se registraron víctimas mortales.
Las autoridades informaron que pudieron circunscribir el incendio. Se desconocen las causas del fuego, aunque las autoridades sospechan que fue provocado.
Las 50 viviendas y escuela quemadas se encuentran en la zona de La Rinconada, donde 200 familias fueron evacuadas por orden de la municipalidad de Epuyén.
En tanto, un foco aún más destructivo ha consumido más de 4.000 hectáreas de bosques en el Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, un bello paraje natural situado unos 100 kilómetros al norte.
Las lluvias de las últimas horas trajeron un alivio parcial a la zona, donde los parajes de Los Manzanos y Laguna Quetro – Cerro Colorado son los más perjudicados.
