"You know, we are all very excited and we are waiting for the return of the hostages. We are praying for them. We want them safe and alive, everybody, all of them, so we’re excited and we’re happy that the hostages are going to come back, hopefully, that nothing is going to be (happen) in the last minute. But with all the feelings, we need to remember that there is a cost for this deal, there is a severe cost that we’re going to release some murderers and they’re going to kill more Israelis. We wanted a better deal, we need to return everybody, we pray for them, but we wanted that after 15 months Hamas is going to be destroyed and is not going to get some of his demands."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Michal Saad Wasserman, Tel Aviv resident:
"I hope they’ll bring them back, but I just think that statistically, probably not all of them would be brought back and probably not all of them are alive. I’m not very optimistic, but I just hope for the best. I mean I know that statistically it probably won’t happen, but I still hope for it."

STORYLINE:
Tel Aviv residents on Thursday expressed mixed feelings about a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas announced Wednesday by U.S. President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar.

Dor Reich said he is excited about the agreement, but that "there is a severe cost that we’re going to release some murderers and they’re going to kill more Israelis."

"I’m not very optimistic, but I just hope for the best," added Michal Saad Wasserman, another Tel Aviv resident.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says his Cabinet won’t meet to approve the agreement for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages until Hamas backs down, accusing the group of reneging on parts of the agreement in an attempt to gain further concessions.

Netanyahu said a “last-minute crisis” with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval of the long-awaited ceasefire agreement.

His office did not elaborate.

The Israeli Cabinet was set to ratify the deal Thursday.

Netanyahu has faced great domestic pressure to bring home the scores of hostages, but his far-right coalition partners have threatened to bring down his government if he makes too many concessions.

He has enough opposition support to approve an agreement, but doing so would weaken his coalition and make early elections more likely.

Meanwhile, Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip have killed at least 72 people since the deal was announced, according to Gaza health officials.

Palestinians in Gaza reported heavy Israeli bombardment overnight as people were celebrating the ceasefire deal.
