STORYLINE:
Dozens of Hamas and Hezbollah supporters took to the streets of Tehran on Thursday evening to celebrate the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas that could pause fighting in Gaza and release hostages.
Iran called the agreement, which still needs to be approved by the Israeli government, a victory for Hamas and a humiliating defeat for Israel.
Although the U.S. and Qatar announced the deal on Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a last-minute dispute with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval.
The delay raised concerns about the implementation of the deal, scheduled to go into effect on Sunday.
"This is a sign of victory for the people of Gaza," said Rafiee, a woman taking part in the celebrations in Tehran.
"I congratulate the oppressed people of Gaza on behalf of myself and all freedom-seeking people around the world."
Iran is the prime supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah and other militant groups across the region opposed to Israel.
