Sharpe: "Before we begin, on behalf of everyone at BAFTA, our thoughts are with colleagues, friends and peers and all those affected by the devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area."
McKenna-Bruce: "We would also like to express our profound gratitude for the fire and rescue services who have worked tirelessly to save lives and protect homes."
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jane Millichip, CEO, BAFTA – on why it was important to acknowledge the wildfires in Los Angeles before the nominations:
"Well, of course, it’s important. You know, our thoughts go out to everybody affected. We have an office in L.A. We have BAFTA North America. And so our thoughts are with colleagues, our board members in the States, peers, members. And I mean, it’s extraordinarily sad and impactful. But, you know, it’s important that we support that community."
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Will Sharpe and Mia McKenna-Bruce, actors – on why it was important to acknowledge the wildfires in Los Angeles before the nominations:
McKenna-Bruce: "Yeah, I think it’s just hugely important to acknowledge that that’s what they are going through right now. It’s such a tragic time. So, yeah, we wanted to make sure we spoke about it briefly."
Sharpe: "Yeah, I think it’s important to acknowledge it, yeah."
