STORYLINE:
The Detroit Auto show is now open to the public. The event was a must-see event for industry executives and journalists.
This year’s media preview featured a dearth of vehicle debuts, less-glitzy displays and fewer reporters.
Ford Motor Co. held an event on Thursday night in which it showed off a few new Mustang versions and brought out popular Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
Sam Klemet (kleh-MET’), the Detroit show’s co-executive director, called it “an executive showcase for Ford.”
And on Friday morning, the annual NACTOY awards were handed out.
The Honda Civic hybrid won the 2025 North American Car of the Year award, while the Ford Ranger took the crown for the truck honors, and Volkswagen ID. Buzz won the utility award.
The honors are decided by a group of 50 journalists from the U.S. and Canada.
The show still has plenty of cars — 500 in all representing 30 different brands.
