STORYLINE:
Mourners held Muslim funeral prayers on Sunday for three people from the same family who were killed by an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza.
The funeral service took place in the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in the city of Deir al-Balah.
A five-year-old girl, her grandfather and her uncle were killed on Saturday evening when the strike hit a tent in Deir al-Balah.
An Associated Press video showed relatives saying farewell to their dead.
Women were seen crying as men were taking the bodies for the funeral prayers.
The health ministry said hospitals across Gaza received 28 dead bodies and 89 wounded over the past 24 hours.
The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting around 250 people.
Some 100 hostages are still inside Gaza, at least a third of whom are believed to be dead.
Israel’s offensive has killed more than 46,500 Palestinians in Gaza, more than half of them women and children, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not say how many were combatants.
Another 109,571 Palestinians were wounded, it said.
The Israeli military says it has killed over 17,000 militants, without providing evidence.
