"Today we held our meeting in Riyadh, which included a number of Arab countries in addition to Turkey and international partners. Today’s meetings were attended by His Excellency Minister Ahmed Al-Shaibani as confirmation from us that the discussion on the Syrian affairs is taking place with the participation of Syrians. The attendees welcomed the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration in the field of preserving state institutions, adopting an approach of dialogue with the Syrian parties, and its commitment to combating terrorism and starting a political process that includes the various segments of the brotherly Syrian people in a way that ensures the stability of Syria and the preservation of its territorial integrity, and that Syria is not a source of threats to the countries of the region."
STORYLINE:
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud said on Sunday that there have been "positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration."

Saudi Arabia is hosting a conference on Syria’s future attended by top European and Middle Eastern diplomats.

The talks come after last month’s overthrow of President Bashar Assad.

The Saudi foreign minister said the talks included Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani as "the discussion on the Syrian affairs is taking place with the participation of Syrians."

He praised measures taken by the new administration to ensure Syria’s stability and that Syria would not be "a source of threats to the countries of the region."

With Assad out of the picture, Syria’s new authorities hope that the international community will pour money into the country to rebuild its battered infrastructure and make its economy viable again.
