STORYLINE:
In Los Angeles, people at collections sites picked through cardboard boxes of donated items to restart their lives after several wildfires displaced thousands of residents.

After living in Altadena, California, for over 25 years, Jose Luis Godinez and his family escaped with their lives as a historic wildfire crisis destroyed their community.

Mr. Godinez and his family of 16 left everything behind but only one change of clothes before the fire burned down the houses they lived in.

Firefighters made progress for the first time since Tuesday containing the Eaton Fire north of Pasadena that has burned more than 7,000 structures, a term that includes homes, apartment buildings, businesses, outbuildings and vehicles.

Although he had lost everything to fire, Mr. Godinez was still resilient and believed everyone would come together and overcome this crisis.
