STORYLINE:
Creating altered media or "deepfakes" is becoming easier and cheaper than ever, says one data and AI security expert at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
Daniel Kendzior, the global data and AI security lead at Accenture told The Associated Press Thursday that natural disasters and civil unrest are "prime opportunities" for bad actors to mislead the public using deepfakes.
Accenture’s First AI-ID Kit is an online platform designed to help users better understand the risks involved in the creation of deepfakes.
When coming in to contact with a piece of media that is suspected as altered or fake, Kendzior advises internet uses to check multiple trusted sources for the image or search for various angles of the image.
If the content is video, users should perform the same checks or search for a live video of the situation.
"These are all some cues that people can look at, but unfortunately, due to the sophistication of technology, it’s not a simple thing to do," he said.
