STORYLINE:
Thousands of Venezuelan citizens living in South American Andean countries in cities such as Bogota, Lima and Quito demonstrated on Thursday to join forces in response to the call of opposition leaders Maria Corina Machado and Edmundo Gonzalez to protest against the inauguration of a third term for President Nicolas Maduro.

In Colombia’s capital, Bogota, a group of Venezuelans made themselves heard in the north of the city, all carrying flags and wearing red, blue or yellow clothing, as Machado called for the protests earlier in the week.

"Tomorrow is the inauguration, it is the big change. Tomorrow we crystallize what we did on July 28th," said Xiomara Beatriz, alluding to Edmundo González’s promise to be sworn in as president on Friday, despite the fact that Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared incumbent President Nicolas Maduro the winner of the July elections.

In the Peruvian capital, Lima, demonstrators went a step further and gathered to protest in front of the Venezuelan embassy, which was being heavily guarded by local police.

Tulio Rodriguez is a Venezuelan living in Lima and on Thursday he was demonstrating holding a poster of the U.S. DEA agency offering a reward for information to arrest Maduro.

"We want the more than one million Venezuelans here in Lima to support us. We want them to support us in rejecting the pretensions of the dictator Maduro," said Rodríguez.
