2. SOUNDBITE (English) Naomi Jones, New Orleans resident:
"What I get is that we can’t police our way out of crazy driving and reckless driving and cruel driving after the fact. We’ve got to build the infrastructure as a community, as a city that prevents it from ever happening and that means bollards, that means traffic calming, that means restricting who can go through these crowded spaces and when, if at all."
3. Wide of New Orleans City Council members
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Lindsay Garcia, New Orleans resident:
"Within this city you repeatedly do not fund education. There are no parks and recreations. Our criminal justice system is crap. Our health care is crap and I apologize from the depths of my soul that I do not walk in here and communicate it the way that you want but I will tell you this, I am tired of getting mad at clowns whenever the city of New Orleans is bringing ourselves to the circus because having an investigation starting tomorrow is too late. You showing up here and telling our New Orleans City Council that you’re not willing to answer questions is unsatisfactory seven days after the fact because the time to do that was a long time ago."
5. Tight of Police Superintendent
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Bruce Reilly, New Orleans resident:
"This city is really good at hiring their cousin and having no oversight and not getting anything done and that needs to end. And y’all are running for office this fall, your whole thing has to be about execution, hiring the right people, getting stuff done."
7. Close up of city council sign
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Nellie Catzen, New Orleans resident:
"Cars hitting people is a known risk. We have the equipment. We have the money. We have the plans. Why aren’t we doing it? It’s a coordination failure. I hope that if any good can come out of this absolutely and truly senseless tragedy, it will be the courage that the public officials sitting before me and all of those who maybe didn’t have the courage to come to the room today can actually get it done."
9. Mid of council members
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Erin Holmes, New Orleans resident:
"We’ve been basically watching our parents fight, the council and the administration. And I feel like we as residents have become leveraged in a drawn out and very real and very public divorce settlement."

STORYLINE:
After a terror attack killed 14 people last week, sparks flew at Wednesday’s City Council meeting in New Orleans as residents confronted their elected officials for the first time since the New Year’s attack.

New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick refused to respond to questions during the tense meeting where officials and residents sought answers over security lapses.

Frustration from the pubic was aimed toward Kirkpatrick, council members and Collin Arnold, Director of the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP), who was absent from the meeting.

"We’ve been basically watching our parents fight, the council and the administration", Erin Holmes said during the public comments section of the meeting.

Residents say their concerns are not being taken seriously just before the city is set to host massive events, Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl, over the next two months.
