2. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister:
"I am willing to support the options that Ukraine is willing to support, and I believe that this is fundamental to having a just peace. After that, I am absolutely convinced that security guarantees for Ukraine are essential to be able to effectively aim for peace in Ukraine, because we all know that Russia in the past violated the agreements it had signed and therefore unfortunately without security guarantees, we can’t be sure that what happened in 2022 won’t happen again."

4. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister:
"After that, I am not the one who determines what the conditions for a just peace should be. Usually, in the meantime, conditions for peace are negotiated by those involved. But I think it will be a just peace if Ukraine agrees.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister:
"Look, if we talk about peace today, it is because I fear Russia has become a bit mired in Ukraine and has become bogged down, because thanks to the courage, of course, of the Ukrainian people, but also thanks to Western support, Donald Trump understands this very well. We are used to, at least what I saw when Donald Trump was President of the United States, let’s say, an ability to dose diplomacy and deterrence. And I predict that it will happen this time too. So, in the terms of peace, I have already said that Trump may be a person who can move forward with the solution. I think so, but I don’t expect that to mean abandoning Ukraine."

8. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister:
"As far as the inauguration is concerned, I confirm the invitation. I confirm that I would like to be there, I am pleased to be there and clearly I am evaluating it precisely on the compatibility of the agenda with the many things we have to do, but if I succeed, I will gladly participate."
