"We are outside the prosecutor’s office and the judicial councils daily to get justice for our (disappeared) daughters, which is what our organization is dedicated to. In many cases there are cases (of disappearance) that have not been resolved after as many as eight years. However, today this truth is intensified. Ecuador has lost four sons, four children in such a cruel way at the hands of those who should have guaranteed our lives, such as the Armed Forces and the Police."

STORYLINE:
Protesters gathered Tuesday in front of Ecuador’s Public Prosecutor’s Office to demand justice for four children who were murdered in Guayaquil after being detained by the military last December.
“We do not want revenge, we want justice”, chanted the demonstrators, for the children who disappeared on December 8 after being detained by a military patrol.
The Armed Forces have emphatically denied the involvement of soldiers in the disappearance and killing of the children.
The four choldren, Josué Arroyo, Ismael Arroyo, Steven Medina and Saúl Arboleda aged between 11 and 15 years old, were detained by the military on December 8 after finishing a soccer practice on the sports field in the Las Malvinas neighborhood, south of Guayaquil.
On December 31, shortly after the hearing in which 16 soldiers were linked to the case, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that charred skeletons found in an area in a sector of Taura, a coastal area where an Air Force base operates, corresponded to the four missing children.
