"Tariffs or taxes. We all know that they are inflationary. They’re paid for by consumers. And if we go forward with the proposals that President Trump has indicated he may put in place, it would have a severe reaction in terms of the prosperity of the United States and it would increase inflation. And we disagree with the Trump administration."

"That won’t be that big of an issue because of the price point where we could still, like have space to have a good profit margin and give a good price. Our. And consumers."

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Jonathan Roubini, Technology Expert:
"Trump’s new tariffs are going to come into the market probably this year. And in the tech industry, we not going to see a major impact because a lot of the technology are based on software and artificial intelligence. Tariffs are not going to affect software. They’re really going to affect the hardware. We’re going to see products in the technology industry raising costs potentially for the consumer when it comes your iPod, your iPhone, your, you know, your different gadgets, maybe for a few dollars for up to $50 a product. What we’re not going to see is an impact in the long term in terms of the tech sector."

STORYLINE:
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s threats to impose steep tariffs on goods from canada, China and two dozen other has left uncertainty as he prepares to take office. But at CES, the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, the threats are being shrugged off by some companies.

David Movsisyan, of Exaeon Technologies is based in Marjkham, Canada, but his company manufactures its smart watches in China had the foresight to open a manufacturing plant in Vietnam. Trumps import tariffs could raise costs significantly.

"That won’t be that big of an issue because of the price point where we could still, like have space to have a good profit margin and give a good price. Our. And consumers," Movsisyan said.

Jonathan Roubini, a technology expert based in New York isn’t worried too much about the impact of tariffs. "We’re going to see products in the technology industry raising costs but we’re not going to see is an impact in the long term in terms of the tech sector."

Gary Sapiro, t president of the Consumer Technology Association sees tariffs as a negative for the U.S. economy.

"This is happening of it happened exactly 100 years ago where there was a tariff war and it led to the Great Depression, which we only got out of because of World War Two. We don’t want to go in that direction." Shapiro said.
