STORYLINE:
Louisville residents woke up to several inches of snow on Monday as a major winter blast moved through the commonwealth.

Nine inches of snow fell at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, setting a one-day record for the date, the National Weather Service said. The total included a trace of snowfall early Monday.
Kentucky’s largest city could receive an additional inch or two of snow later Monday as the back end of the storm passes through.

Freezing rain coated portions of Kentucky with a layer of ice.

Louisville resident Hugh Ross was attempting to break through the layers of ice and snow on his driveway on Monday with hopes to go to work on Tuesday.

"You gotta break it up first, if you don’t do that, you’re wasting your time,” Ross said. “I did a couple of layers yesterday."

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, who declared a state emergency, said government buildings would be closed Monday.
