STORYLINE:
LEADIN:
You can walk through historic monuments shaped from giant icy boulders, the Taj Mahal, the Temple of Heaven and even Warrior Square are all part of China’s spectacular World of Snow and Ice in Harbin.
Each year a frozen city rises from the cold north eastern province, a temporary icy marvel which astonishes visitors until it finally melts away.
STORYLINE:
In freezing temperatures of -17 Celsius a miniature city has risen in China’s Heilongjiang province.
It’s the world’s largest theme park dedicated to snow and ice, spreading across one million square metres.
This year this event is showcasing sculptures and landmarks of 42 Asian countries and regions, a fanfare anticipating the Asian Winter Games next month here in Harbin.
Here are iconic architectures of different countries.
Circling the central tower are the Taj Mahal of India, the Osaka Castle of Japan, the Temple of Heaven of China.
Jin Yiting and her parents came from Shanghai to enjoy an icy and snowy winter that’s rarely felt in southern China.
“The ice sculpture looks exactly the same (as the Temple of the Heaven). I touched the ice cubic and its texture is very good. It’s translucent. It looks elegant when the sunlight passes through,” said Jin.
