As Los Angeles burns, families are facing agonizing decisions to evacuate or stay to defend their homes. Some are defying evacuation orders and staying put. They are determined to fight the fires with whatever they can get their hands on. Malibu resident Alec Gillis put his life on the line trying to save his girlfriend’s home, but the fire was too much. Former L.A. County fire captain Robert Goldman says it is possible to stay and save your home, but only if you know what you’re doing.
