5. SOUNDBITE (English) Eric Tucker, The Associated Press:
"We are continuing to learn more about Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the Army veteran responsible for the deadly New Orleans rampage on New Year’s Day. He was born in the United States. He’s a 42 year old Texas man who has lived his life in the United States. He was an Army veteran, and the FBI is trying to figure out how it is that at some point he came to be radicalized and came to profess allegiance to the Islamic State. And so, during the course of their investigation, the FBI has analyzed five videos that they say Jabbar posted to Facebook in the hours before the attack. And in those videos, he describes his support for, for the Islamic State group. He talks about, he had thought about harming his family, but decided that that would distract or detract attention from the war between the believers and the nonbelievers. And so he decided to go this route instead. One other thing that’s really interesting is that although the FBI initially said they thought he might have been working with other associates, they’ve since determined that he, in fact, acted alone and that nobody else is believed to have been responsible for this attack which killed 14 people. Jabbar himself was killed in a firefight with police after ramming his pickup truck into a crowd of pedestrians and then exiting and then getting into a shootout."
