STORYLINE:
The South Korean stock market opened slightly higher than the previous year’s close, on the first day of trading in 2025.
Despite the upward start, South Korea’s benchmark Korea Stock Price Index, soon started falling due to ongoing political turmoil in the country.
The Korean Exchange held an opening ceremony on Thursday morning, in the presence of lawmakers and government officials.
During the ceremony, the Chairman of Financial Services Commission Kim Byoung Hwan, vowed to maintain stability in the market amid the uncertainty and volatility.
