6. SOUNDBITE (English) Anne Kirkpatrick, New Orleans Police Superintendent:
"We have brought in heavy trucks. You will see when you go down Bourbon, you will see yellow, what we call archers. And they are along the sidewalk. And that would be to be preventive if someone had or if this particular terrorist went around up on the sidewalk, that’s what that would do. It would slow that down for anyone who thought that they could reach targets."

15. SOUNDBITE (English) Jordan Templeton, visitor:
"I do. I think that if there is anywhere that it’s safe, it’s probably here right now. You can’t walk 50ft without seeing police, FBI, all other types of organizations all down here. They’re on every single corner inside every single store. There’s vehicles, all these vehicles driving around, scanning all of the areas. So I think of anywhere safe, It’s here right now. But yeah."

STORYLINE:
Bourbon Street reopened Thursday after 14 people were killed and more than 30 injured in New Orleans when a driver rammed into a crowd early on New Year’s Day.

Speaking to reporters New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick declared the street open to the public Thursday afternoon.

"We are confident that we can open Bourbon Street and the rest of our city," said Kirkpatrick, adding that there will be heighten police presence, heavy trucks blocking streets and barriers on sidewalks as a preventive measure to stop vehicles.

Jordan Templeton said he was out in Bourbon Street on New Years Day but had left before the attack took place.

"It just feels really somber being here," said Templeton. "I think that if there is anywhere that it’s safe, it’s probably here right now," he added.

The FBI says the New Orleans truck attack acted alone when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers.
