STORYLINE:
Revelers from far and wide gathered in Times Square Tuesday to celebrate the iconic New Year’s Eve ball drop marking the end of 2024.
New York police patrolled the area and monitored as crowds of people walked through security checkpoints.
In New York City, the organization managing Times Square tested its famous ball drop and inspected the 2025 numerals, lights and thousands of crystals as part of a tradition going back to 1907.
This year’s celebration will include musical performances by TLC, Jonas Brothers, Rita Ora and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.
By Tuesday evening, people who had been in line for hours moved through a gauntlet of security checks, and then rested up for the night of performances and cheering ahead.
