STORYLINE:
Fireworks sparkled in the night sky over Nairobi as Kenya welcomed the arrival of the new year.

The capital was one of numerous cities around to herald 2025 with a spectacular light show that lit up the dark skies.

Nairobi’s various sky-scrapers were a flurry of color as fireworks exploded over the East African nation’s capital.

Revelers and worshippers ushered in 2025 in song and dance, many expressing mixed reactions to the year that was 2024.

Having dealt with issues ranging from health and economy, most were looking forward to better things in the new year.

Fireworks also lit up the night skies over Senegal’s capital, Dakar.

Further south, the skyline of Johannesburg was illuminated by thousands of fireworks as South Africans greeted 2025.

The centrepiece of the show in the city was the Hillbrow Tower which was illuminated to ring in the new year.

Many South Africans welcomed in the new year by setting off their own fireworks.
