STORYLINE:
Venezuela’s Supreme Court on Monday imposed a fine of 10 million dollars on TikTok, for its "negligence" in not removing content relating to so-called "viral challenges".

The decision came after the government urged the social media platform to remove a series of viral content following the death of two children, who allegedly viewed an online challenge shared on TikTok.

According to an investigation, a girl ingested a medicine used to control certain types of seizures and alleviate panic attacks as part of a challenge to fall asleep.

The other was a 14-year-old boy, but the government didn’t specify the causes of death.

The court announced that the money from the fine would be used to create a "TikTok Victims Fund" to compensate those affected by content, especially minors.

It also demanded TikTok open an office in Venezuela to oversee the output on the platform and make sure it conformed with Venezuela’s laws.
