STORYLINE:
After the fall of President Bashar Assad, Syrians are freely expressing their wishes without fear of censorship after fifty years of Assad’s ruling family.

On the last day of 2024, the citizens at Marjeh Square hope for a new Syria. A democratic and free Syria where justice and law will prevail.

Abdulrahman Al-Habib, a citizen from Deir El-Zour is visiting Damascus searching for his missing relative. Al-Habib hoped that peace would prevail in Syria and the Arab world.

“We hope that in the New Year our status will be better, peace and security will prevail,” Al-Habibi said.

Syrians are optimistic about the future of their country, a bright future that is defined by peace, security and freedom of expression.

They also hope for strong social integration among all Syrian communities.

“We will get back to how we were a long time ago, where people loved each other and celebrated together whether it was Ramadan or Christmas or any other holiday. No restricted areas for anyone," said Abir Homsi.
