STORYLINE:
Rainfall has inundated tents sheltering displaced families across war-torn Gaza Strip following a week of heavy rains and strong winds.

Many tents were flooded over the past two days, adding to the misery of 2.3 million people trapped in more than 20 months of war between Hamas and Israel.

Manal Lubbad, a displaced woman from Gaza City, said the rainfall overwhelmed her tent in the central city of Deir al-Balah.

"I’m drowning, I’m drowning; me, my tent, and my belongings are all swimming inside the tent. I take everything out to the street," she added.

Hundreds of thousands of them are now living in squalid camps of tents packed close together over large areas.

Sewage runs into the streets, and food and water are hard to obtain.

Winter is setting in. Families often have only a few clothes after leaving many belongings behind as they fled. They often wear the same clothes for weeks.

Muhammad Diab, a 53-year-old Palestinian from Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, urged the international community to help end the war.

“Enough. We are unable to bear it. Find a solution for us,” he said. “You see, how long will we remain in this torment? In the summer there was intense heat and we could bear it, but in the winter we were flooded and we were unable to bear it.”

Israel’s 14-month-old campaign in Gaza has driven more than 90% of its 2.3 million Palestinians from their homes.
