It was one of the worst years for me and for all Palestinian people. I lost my son. My child is 10 years old. I lost him in Muwasi Rafah. They told us it was a safe place, but I lost my son there."

16. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Ghada Jaber, Lebanese citizen:
"My hopes are for peace of course, for peace to spread. Peace and love, of course. But that seems to be distant. It seems that there are more things awaiting us. Everyone wishes for peace in their homes and in their country, and even across the world – not just in one’s country. The tragedies that we have been through are not easy. They are very tough."

STORYLINE:
People across the Middle East were on Tuesday giving their reflections for 2024, and their hopes for the new year.
Those in Israel say they are hoping for a more peaceful 2025. The last 2 years have seen wars with Hamas and Hezbollah, and 100 Israeli hostages remain in captivity.
War-weary Pelestinians in Gaza said it was a year of “devastation, killings, displacement” as the war between Hamas and Israel has raged on for more than 20 months.
Lebanese people shared cautious hopes for next year, reflecting on a country still reeling from war with Israel and ongoing crises.
After the fall of President Bashar Assad, Syrians are freely expressing their wishes without fear of censorship after fifty years of Assad’s ruling family.
