STORYLINE:
The Urban Growers Collective in Chicago has a solution for people wondering what to do with their Christmas tree now that the holiday has passed: They can turn their tree into a healthy snack for goats.
Donating trees as a snack for goats is an eco-friendly, sustainable way to help reduce waste, says Brandon Gutierrez of the nonprofit Urban Growers Collective.
He says pine Christmas trees are a parasite-free, nutritious snack for goats, loaded with vitamins A and C that help the animals maintain a healthy digestive tract.
Goats can eat the trees’ bark, branches and leaves, Gutierrez says, and it’s "a nice treat from the boring hay they’ve been eating for a couple of months now."
Jay Thomas of Chicago was surrounded by excited goats as he dropped off his Christmas tree for the goats on Monday.
