“The Lebanese government is open to all types of funding and donations. In the most recent session of the Lebanese government, the prime minister assigned the deputy prime minister to communicate with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, but the approach remains open. For us, it is possible, but as the Lebanese government, under the prime minister’s directive, we must work transparently. As we conduct damage assessments, which are clearly outlined, it is essential for these assessments to be transparent. Ultimately, as the Lebanese government, it is our role to determine the source of the funding."

STORYLINE:
A Lebanese Cabinet minister said on Monday that a "damage assessment" would be conducted on buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut that were damaged in Israeli airstrikes.
"Reconstruction is a fundamental and vital issue, a primary goal, and a matter of interest to everyone, foremost among them the Prime Minister, who is working tirelessly to advance it," caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamie, said at a press conference in the capital Beirut.
Israel carried out heavy strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs before the ceasefire took hold on Nov. 27, pounding targets in the already hard-hit neighborhoods known as the Dahiyeh, where Hezbollah was headquartered.
Since the ceasefire took effect on Nov. 27, the Israeli army has conducted near-daily operations in southern Lebanon, including shootings, house demolitions, excavations, tank shelling, and airstrikes.
These actions have killed at least 27 people, wounded more than 30 and destroyed residential buildings, including a mosque.
The U.S.-brokered ceasefire, which ended the 14-month war, demands that Hezbollah and Israeli forces withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days, allowing Lebanese troops to gradually deploy south of the Litani River.
