“They surrounded the hospital at 4 a.m. and burned all the buildings around the hospital and forced Dr. Abu Safiya to evacuate the patients. They told him over the loudspeaker that he had ten minutes to evacuate them, and they began firing shells around the hospital as a pressure tactic until they forced the doctor to discharge the sick.”

“I am injured, suffering from internal bleeding. They took me to Al Fakhoura (name of school) and at Al Fakhoura they took off our clothes and they left us naked from six o’clock in the morning until six o’clock in the morning ( next day, it’s 24 hours) In the end, arrested some of us. We asked them (army) for water or something to drink, but no (they did not give anything)."

“They told him (Hosam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan) that you and the medical staff who are with you and all those with you in the hospital, including the displaced, the sick, and the injured, should surrender themselves. We went down and surrendered ourselves, and they said that we should take off our clothes and stay in our underwear, and we should not wear our clothes, and we took off our clothes and stayed in our underpants, we went out around 7:30 am to the checkpoint, the area of checkpoint is two to three hours away from the hospital."

STORYLINE:
Wounded Palestinians who Israeli soldiers expelled from a northern Gaza hospital over the weekend have described harrowing conditions where they were forced to strip down to their underwear in cold winter weather for hours.
“They surrounded the hospital at 4 a.m. and burned all the buildings around the hospital,” said Wissam Warsh, a 45-year-old father of five who spent almost a week receiving treatment at Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of northern Gaza’s last functioning hospitals,.
He said soldiers made the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, bring all the patients outside before detaining him.
“They told him over the loudspeaker that he had 10 minutes to evacuate them, and they began firing shells around the hospital as a pressure tactic,” said Warsh, who sustained his injuries in Beit Lahiya.
He and other patients were recuperating at Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, where he spoke to The Associated Press from a hospital bed on Sunday.
Gaza’s Health Ministry said Safiya was arrested Friday along with dozens of other staff and taken to an interrogation centre.
It claimed Hamas militants were using the hospital as a base, and said over 240 militants were detained.
