"At first, we responded with five ambulance teams and we have two rescue teams. After an hour, while the teams were doing a rescue mission, unfortunately, the building collapsed. Thank God that our teams, and other organizations’ teams are ok. We have two guys from civil defense, they are both stuck under the rubble, but thank God there is communication with them and so far they are fine. Hopefully in ten minutes or so, they will be pulled out."

"What happened is that we were having lunch around 4 p.m. and we heard an explosion that sounded like an airstrike. We stepped out and we saw the destruction and smoke coming out from over there. Five minutes later, we saw fire from there."

"Around an hour ago, the building collapsed. Before it did, it had a big crack. I told people that the crack means the building is leaning. They came and blocked the road only. Ten minutes later, the building collapsed."

"This shop has a bunch of chemical items. Gasoline, paint, thinner, among other stuff. Everything needed to paint is there. It is full up to its roof."

STORYLINE:
Rescue teams were trying to pull out two Civil Defense members who were trapped under a collapsed building in Tripoli in the north of Lebanon on Tuesday.
The building collapsed after a fire broke out earlier, trapping two Civil Defense personnel under the debris.
Rescue teams were working to free the individuals and ensure no other people were trapped beneath the rubble.
Before its collapse, the teams managed to evacuate people from the building.
According to eye witnesses, loud explosions were heard before a fire broke out in a shop that stores batteries, and highly flammable items like thinner and paint.
The fire also spread to an adjacent building.
