STORYLINE:
A group of Turkish investors and businessmen met with Syria’s interim minister of economy Basel Abdul Hanan in Damascus Tuesday to discuss future cooperation following the rebel overthrow of Syria’s President Bashar Assad.
The delegation discussed how they could contribute to rebuilding Syria as well as investment opportunities and economic collaboration between the neighboring countries.
Syrian businessman Hassan Al-Marabi said the return of Turkish investment in Syria is "important" as Turkey is a "sincere neighbor and has high trust and experience in all domains."
He also expressed the need to rebuild Syria following Assad’s fall.
"Syria is an exhausted country, a country freed from detention like any detainee," he said.
So far, Syria’s transition has been surprisingly smooth. But it’s only been two weeks since President Bashar Assad was toppled, and many of those same dangers lurk in the background.
