4. Close of ‘Dancers’ (2002)
5. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Lina Botero, daughter of Fernando Botero and curator of the exhibition:
“This exhibition is very important because it commemorates the first anniversary of my father’s death. But it also highlights the importance of Italy, which was in a way like a second homeland for my father in his work, in his artistic career and in his own life. There are more than two unpublished works here. There is not only this painting, the ‘Homage to Mantegna’, which is a painting that we got on loan from a large collection in the United States and which also remained out of the public eye for more than 40 years – it is an extraordinary opportunity to have it in this exhibition – but there is also the version, this last version of Las Meninas by Velázquez that my father made, and that from the moment he painted it, he left it hanging in his studio and never lent it out for any exhibition.”

6. Various of “La Menina. After Velazquez”
7. Various of "The Bathroom" (1989)
8. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Lina Botero, daughter of Fernando Botero and curator of the exhibition:
“There is also the portrait of Pedrito Botero, his son, who died at the age of four. It’s a beautiful pastel. After Pedrito’s death, my father left all the works he had in New York at the time, closed it in a warehouse and never opened it again. And so that painting lasted more than 40 years in a deposit and we discovered it recently and it’s a wonderful opportunity to show it to the public for the first time."

9. Various of the portrait of Pedrito Botero
10. Various of “Dancer at the barre” (2001)
11. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Lina Botero, daughter of Fernando Botero and curator of the exhibition:
“The reason why Fernando Botero is important is precisely because he created a unique and original style and because he always stood in a category apart from all other artists. Throughout his life my father walked a very lonely path in this respect because he often swam against the prevailing currents in the art world. When he came to New York in the 1960s, he was a figurative artist, whereas what prevailed at the time was pop art and abstract expressionism. And so this unique style is what has made him recognisable all over the world. But he also defended the importance that art should have a direct communication with the spectator, without the need for explanations from intermediaries. And that is precisely why his work arouses so much enthusiasm.”

12. Various of the diptych ‘After Piero della Francesca’ (1998)
13. Various of sculpture
14. Tilt up of “Profile of the Monalisa”
15. SOUNDBITE (English) Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, curator of the exhibition:

16. Various of “The Goring” (1988)
17. Close-up of “Musicians” (2008)
18. Pan left of various paintings
19. Various of triptych
20. SOUNDBITE (English) Cristina Carrillo de Albornoz, curator of the exhibition:

21. Various of “The end of the party” (2008)
22. Various of “Self Portrait” (1988)
23. Exteriors of Palazzo Bonaparte
