3. Johnson and staff walking away
STORYLINE:
Hours to go before a midnight government shutdown, the House approved a new plan late Friday from Speaker Mike Johnson that would temporarily fund federal operations and disaster aid, but drops President-elect Donald Trump’s demands for a debt limit increase into the new year.
Speaking to reporters as the vote was still going on, Johnson said he was optimistic about the bill and said he had been in communication with President-elect Donald Trump.
Asked how the President-elect was feeling about the debt ceiling Johnson said Trump was "good."
"We’re going to fix that problem in January," he said.
