Russia is cautioning against jumping to – what it calls hypotheses – about what caused the Azerbaijan Airlines crash in Kazakhstan. Several sources with knowledge of a probe now underway say the plane was hit by shrapnel from a Russian surface-to-air missile. The passenger jet was headed from Baku in Azerbaijan to the Russian city of Grozny. However, it turned east and crossed the Caspian Sea, crashing a few kilometers from Aktau airport in Kazakhstan.
