2. SOUNDBITE (English): Aidan O’Donnell, General Manager, New Jersey Airports, The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey:
“It’s shaping up to be another record breaking year at the Port Authority’s transportation facilities. And we’re prepared for a major surge in travel across the region, with 8.6 million vehicles utilizing the bridges and tunnels and over 5.2 million customers flying through Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia and New York’s Stewart Airports from December 21st through January 2nd. The busiest travel days in the region are projected to be December 22nd and 23rd, December 27th and January 2nd. So be ready for large crowds and extended wait times at both the airports and on the roads. Travelers should allow extra time to reach their destination. And the record holiday demand for air travel comes as the region’s airports are undergoing a $30 billion transformation. With all that activity and all that construction, staying informed is more important than ever.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English): Thomas Carter, TSA Federal Security Director for New Jersey:
“Hanukkah and Christmas are starting on the same day. So we can see some anticipated added volume because of that.”
9. UPSOUND (English) Lazaro Adan, TSA Officer:
“Of the gift boxes is very easy to just open it up. We look inside and, there’s a problem in there. It is a toy, but it is a problem. It’s not allowed on the plane. Now, the the foods that are solid, you can bring in like bananas, candy canes, donuts, donut holes, fruitcake. If you like fruitcake, you could bring fruitcake. I don’t know why I don’t like fruitcake, but if that’s what you like, you go ahead and do that.”
10. SOUNDBITE (English): Thomas Carter, TSA Federal Security Director for New Jersey
“In regard to gift bags, obviously it’s the holidays. We’re going to be traveling with gifts. There is no prohibition about wrapped gifts. But my recommendation, my sincere recommendation is do not wrap the gifts, although they are not prohibited. If that gift alarms, we will have to open it and then we will be like the Grinch and ruin that Christmas wrapping. So we encourage you use a nice gift box or a gift bag and it’s what’s inside that counts. All right. So please, we recommend that you do not wrap those gifts.”
11. UPSOUND (English) Lazaro Adan, TSA Officer:
“Carry ons you could bring. It’s best if you guys bring bags or or boxes, gift boxes, gift bags or gift boxes because they’re wrapped, if anything is wrapped, it’s going to be ripped by us. And, you know, not for nothing.”
12. UPSOUND (English) Lazaro Adan, TSA Officer:
“If you put a gift or we have to do is look inside and there’s no need to rip anything up and you can still use the bag to to, you know, give that gift.”
