STORYLINE:
Thousands of marathon enthusiasts from around the world gathered at the Giza Pyramids over the weekend for the Egypt Pyramids Half Marathon.
Held on Saturday, the sixth edition of the race attracted participants of different age groups and nationalities.
Miral Yassin, who has been participating in the half marathon for six years, said that this time she saw an increase in the number of participants, including foreigners.
"This marathon is very special because it’s held at the Pyramids, and the atmosphere is amazing; everything is beautiful," she added.
Over 6,000 participants from 82 countries attended the sport event this year.
"It’s a good course. It’s fun,” said Austin Siess, an American marathoner.
"There’s a bit of a hill going from second to third kilometre. But, you know, you get over that and it’s flat the whole way afterwards," he added.
Egypt Pyramids Half Marathon is sponsored by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and the Supreme Council of Antiquities, to boost the tourism in the country.
