The suffering of ordinary citizens due to sluggish domestic consumption is significant. There are also growing concerns about the risks of a downward economic trend. The anxiety and concerns of the citizens due to the political situation are very high as well. The government will do its utmost to overcome these challenges and minimize the impact on the daily lives of the citizens. We will establish a strong security posture and manage our international trust in a stable manner. The entire cabinet will make every effort to maintain trust with the United States, the U.S.-South Korea-Japan trilateral partnership, and our other allies."

STORYLINE:
South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo apologized to the nation Saturday for the difficulties and confusion caused by the country’s political situation, after the parliament voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.
In a briefing following an emergency Cabinet meeting, Han reassured South Koreans that the government will work its best to overcome the crisis from the political chaos.
"The government will do its utmost to overcome these challenges and minimize the impact on the daily lives of the citizens," said Han.
The South Korean Prime Minister also stressed the Cabinet will maintain trust with the country’s allies including the United States and Japan, while ensuring the "financial and foreign exchange markets function smoothly."
Earlier in the day, the South Korean parliament voted to impeach Yoon over his short-lived martial law decree, a historic rebuke that was cheered by jubilant crowds who described the outcome as another defiant moment in the nation’s resilient democratic journey.
The National Assembly passed the motion 204-85 in a floor vote, suspending Yoon’s presidential powers and duties. Han, the country’s No. 2 official, took over his authority.
The court has up to 180 days to determine whether to dismiss Yoon as president or restore his powers. If he’s thrown out of office, a national election to choose his successor must be held within 60 days.
