"Since Milei took office, we used to cook 13 pans (100 liters), and now we cook 28, and the food is not enough. The city government sends food for 1,800 rations, and we give out food for 4,000 to 5,000 people Monday, Wednesday, and Friday."

STORYLINE:
A un año de asumir el poder en Argentina, el economista ultraliberal Javier Milei ha sacado al país de una inflación galopante con un doloroso plan de ajuste y disciplina fiscal, incluyendo recortes al financiamiento a las provincias y universidades, y miles de despidos de empleados púbicos, entre otras medidas.
Del 25,5% mensual que marcó su primer mes de gestión la inflación se desaceleró a 2,7% en octubre, la más baja de los últimos tres años, según datos oficiales.
Como contracara de su plan económico la pobreza se disparó a más del 50% y el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) se contrajo, con una proyección de caída de entre 2,5% y 3,2% para este año. Sectores clave como la industria, la construcción y el comercio minorista enfrentan dificultades significativas.
En tanto, el consumo se derrumbó: en octubre la caída fue superior al 20% interanual y acumula 12,8% en el año, al ritmo de una fuerte pérdida del valor real de salarios y jubilaciones.
Los analistas coinciden en que la inflación controlada, sumada a la fragmentación opositora, proyectan un escenario favorable para Milei en su segundo año de gobierno, cuando enfrentará su primera prueba electoral en los comicios para renovar el Congreso, que actualmente no controla.
