STORYLINE:
Dozens of Syrian migrants gathered at the Cilvegozu border gate in southern Turkey on early Monday, eagerly awaiting their chance to cross back into Syria after President Bashar Assad’s government was overthrown on Sunday.

Among the crowd was 28-year-old Muhammed Zin, who fled Damascus 10 years ago and had been living and working in Istanbul since then.

"I came to Turkey, I escaped from Syria. The war started in Syria, we came to you. Assad was shooting us, killing us. I escaped from Syria in 2016. I will return to Syria now. Thank God, the war is over," he said.

Seer Ali, 18, left Damascus six years ago to support his family.

Working in Gaziantep, Ali has been the sole provider for his mother and siblings back in Damascus.

"We are very happy, very happy. Not just me, but everyone, all of us Syrians here are very happy. Everyone will return, no one will stay here. They will all go to their families," Ali said, his excitement mirrored by others waiting at the gate.

Migrants draped in blankets and coats camped out by the barriers at the Cilvegozu gate, waiting for the gates to open. Some warmed themselves by makeshift fires as others rested on the cold ground.
