LEAD IN :

The streets of Stockholm are being lit up by art works inspired by Nobel Prize winners.

Medical imaging, cloud chambers and inspirational poetry from past Nobel Laureates have inspired artists to create installations across the city.

STORYLINE:

Leading Lights is a tribute to the female pioneers whose outstanding work has been honoured by the Nobel Prize.

Since the inception of the Nobel Prize in 1901, it has been awarded to women 66 times.

Among those celebrated here is Marie Skłodowska-Curie, the first woman to receive two Nobel Prizes.

The art installation is part of the Nobel Week Lights festival, which began during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Social distancing meant that people couldn’t interact as normal and the Noble Prize celebrations couldn’t take place as usual.

The light installations are all inspired by the scientific discoveries, literature and peace work made by Nobel Prize laureates.

The artwork LUCIFERIN is inspired by the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Y. Tsien for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP.
