"Actually, even in Season 1, there were many participants who belonged to what you might call minority groups. We had a North Korean defector, and notably, there was the foreign worker character Ali, who belongs to perhaps one of the most marginalized groups in Korea. In Season 2, I wanted to (explore) these minority issues again. I wanted to bring back one or two participants with similar themes. Since we featured a foreign worker in Season 1, this time I created the character of Hyun-ju with the idea of including someone who represents sexual minorities. In my personal opinion, I think Hyun-ju will become one of the most beloved and attention-drawing characters among those appearing in Season 2, just as Ali was in Season 1. Through Hyun-ju, you’ll be able to see someone who maintains their humanity within this chaotic game world while being one of the most oppressed and marginalized characters."

STORYLINE:
The cast and creator of Netflix’s global phenomenon "Squid Game" gathered at Seoul’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza on Monday, to launch the show’s second season with a Q&A session and photocall.
Cast members including Yang Dong-geun, Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Kang Ha-neul greeted media alongside director Hwang Dong-hyuk.
The new season of "Squid Game" will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, December 26.
