3. SOUNDBITE (Twi) Anita Anyoka, 25, fashion apprentice:
“(I’m here) because when the NPP (New Patriotic Party) was in power they didn’t do the things they should have done for us. They lied to us. They brought us free education, but you can’t say that you’ll send us to school for free and afterwards you won’t have a job. That’s why we voted against (NPP leader, Mahamudu) Bawumia.”
4. Various of people dancing to songs from former President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign
5. SOUNDBITE (Pidgin) Joshua Okine, 44, commercial driver:
“We are celebrating our new president, because our new president is better than the old one. The old administration – they are criminals, you understand? We used to buy fuel at 14 cedis (0.94 USD per liter), now we buy at 70 or 80 cedis (4.71 or 5.38 USD per gallon). It’s not good. We and Nigerians are very similar, and we don’t know why our petrol costs more than (in Nigeria).”
6. Man waving an NDC flag in front of the NDC headquarters
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Hermman Kwame, 32, local:
“For so many years we have suffered too much. But as for right now, God has done a favour to us to get the NDC in power.”
8. NDC supporters riding motorbikes in front of the campaign headquarters

STORYLINE:
Supporters of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) party celebrated in the streets of Accra Sunday after the main opponent of the NDC’s candidate John Dramani Mahama conceded the election in a televised speech.
Mahamudu Bawumia, of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), served as vice president for the last eight years under Nana Akufo-Addo.
He said Sunday morning that the party’s own vote counting center saw a clear win for Mahama.
This is former President John Dramani Mahama’s second bid for a second term.
He was voted out of power in 2016 amid widespread discontent with his party and months of intense power outages.
The NPP has lost popularity in recent years as Ghana has experienced one of the worst economic crises in its recent history, with rampant inflation and a rapid devaluation of its currency, the cedi.
Young people have been particularly hard hit by the economic crisis.
Anita Anyoka, 25, said that the NPP’s free secondary school program that it has touted as a success story did not impress her.
“They brought us free education, but you can’t say that you’ll send us to school for free and afterwards you won’t have a job,” she said.
Opinion polls predicted a win for Mahama ahead of the election.
Official results are expected in the coming days.
