9. SOUNDBITE (English) James Hyslop, Head of Science and Natural History, Christie’s London:
"The Stegosaurus is absolutely a public favourite and it has been since it was first discovered in 1877. And what’s nice about this specimen, it was found in the Meilyn Quarry, which is a long stone throw because in Wyoming, but a stone’s throw away from that initial discovery in 1877. That iconic armoured plating along its back and those fearsome tail spikes have made this a favourite not just for the toy industry – I grew up as a kid with the plastic Stegosaurus. Everyone can recognise what it is. It is the icon of the age of the dinosaurs. That’s borne out throughout the 150 years of its recent history. It’s been a star fighting other dinosaurs in Hollywood, and it’s just instantly recognisable."

14. SOUNDBITE (English) James Hyslop, Head of Science and Natural History, Christie’s London:
"It’s rare to find a juvenile theropod, which is a top predator, because mostly they would have lived through to adulthood. And when the animal would have died of old age, that’s when it would become fossilised. Being fossilised requires an infinite conspiracy of accidents to preserve these animals for 150 million years. So to have a juvenile is extremely rare. There are only a handful of them in a decent state of preservation."

22. SOUNDBITE (English) James Hyslop, Head of Science and Natural History, Christie’s London:
"So the market for dinosaurs is truly international. Historically, we’ve seen bidding from every continent on Earth. There’s something that’s universal about them. Even though these particular ones come from America, everyone grows up with the imagery of dinosaurs as children. It’s in your schoolbooks. Absolutely everyone loves a dinosaur."

27. SOUNDBITE (English) James Hyslop, Head of Science and Natural History, Christie’s London:
"So there’s been huge interest in dinosaurs recently. Four years ago, we set the world record price then for a dinosaur, with Stan the T-Rex that made $32 million. Two years later, we had the raptor in New York that made $12 million. So next week here at Christie’s, we have an estimate of 3 to £5 million on the Stegosaurus that will be offered with no reserve. And the pair of Allosaurus here will be offered at 5 to £8 million."
