STORYLINE:
Santa Claus has plunged to new depths in Budapest, Hungary, after planting a Christmas tree on the bottom of a shark-filled aquarium tank.
The scuba diving Santa braved shark infested waters alongside other exotic fish at the annual tank decorating event at the Tropicarium Aquarium.
Aside from the yearly holiday visit from Saint Nick, the sharks don’t often meet divers without protection as their regular care and feeding by aquarium staff happens with the help of a metal cage in the tank.
Diver and aquarium animal keeper Valentin Szabolcs is always weary of the dangers the sharks pose but insists, "There is nothing to be afraid of, sharks eat fish, not humans.”
The marine inhabitants of the aquarium will be able to enjoy the seasonal cheer until the end of the holiday season.
"With the help of our sharks, we try to highlight the need to slow down a bit during the holiday season and to show people to love others” the diver said.
According to divers, the Christmas tree requires daily care because the sharks tend to topple it or break off its decorations at night.
