1. The Foreign Ministry just announced sanctions against 13 U.S. military firms over weapons sales to Taiwan. Do you have further information on this decision?
The Taiwan issue is at the core of China’s core interests. Recently, the U.S. has repeatedly announced arms sales to China’s Taiwan region, seriously violating the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs, and seriously undermining China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law of the People’s Republic of China, China decides to take countermeasures against U.S. military enterprises and the companies’ executives.
I want to emphasize that Taiwan’s independence is incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait. The U.S.’s attempts to assist Taiwan independence by arming Taiwan will not shake our firm determination to oppose Taiwan independence and achieve national reunification, and it will only push Taiwan into a dangerous situation of military conflict.
China urges the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, especially the provisions of the August 17 Communiqué, to fulfill the U.S. leaders’ commitment not to support Taiwan independence, and to immediately stop arming Taiwan and stop conniving at and supporting Taiwan independence forces in seeking independence by force.
2. The Venezuelan government announced that Vice President Delcy Rodríguez arrived in Beijing yesterday and plans to meet with several Chinese officials. Can you provide more details about the visit’s specific arrangements and the latest developments in China-Venezuela relations?
China welcomes Vice President Rodríguez’s visit and looks forward to advancing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continuing the traditional friendship between China and Venezuela, deepening practical cooperation in various fields, and injecting new momentum into the development of the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Venezuela, benefiting the people of both countries.
3. According to Japanese media reports, the Japanese foreign minister will make an official visit to China at the end of this month, and relevant staff are discussing the meeting between the two foreign ministers. What are China’s expectations for this?
China attaches importance to maintaining dialogue and communication with Japan at all levels and in various fields and is willing to work with Japan to promote the improvement and development of bilateral relations. Regarding the specific visit you mentioned, I have no information to provide at the moment.
4. Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te reportedly had a phone call with U.S. House Speaker Mike John during his visit to the Pacific. Do you have comments on this?
The Taiwan issue is at the core of China’s core interests and the first red line that must not be crossed in China-U.S. relations. We urge the U.S. to recognize the serious harm that Taiwan independence separatist activities pose to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, earnestly adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, fulfill the U.S. leaders’ commitments not to support Taiwan independence, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces. China will take strong measures to firmly defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
