“Taiwan’s independence is incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait. The U.S. attempts to assist Taiwan independence by arming Taiwan will not shake our firm determination to oppose Taiwan independence and achieve national reunification, and it will only push Taiwan into a dangerous situation of military conflict. China urges the U.S. to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, especially the provisions of the August 17 Communiqué, to fulfill the U.S. leaders’ commitment not to support Taiwan independence, and to immediately stop arming Taiwan and stop conniving at and supporting Taiwan independence forces in seeking independence by force.”

“We have repeatedly emphasized that there is no so-called forced labour in Xinjiang and the Chinese government has always firmly opposed and severely cracked down on forced labour. Xinjiang tomatoes, as well as Xinjiang cotton, are high-quality products known worldwide. From planting to harvesting, mechanization has been largely achieved, with mechanized harvesting rates exceeding 90% and 85% respectively. So, how can there be alleged forced labour?”

STORYLINE:
China announced sanctions on Thursday on 13 American companies and six executives in response to recently announced weapons sales to Taiwan.
The executives include the president and vice president of Raytheon’s Naval Power strategic business unit.
The sanctions include a ban on entering China, including Hong Kong and Macao.
“U.S. attempts to assist Taiwan independence by arming Taiwan will not shake our firm determination to oppose Taiwan independence and achieve national reunification, and it will only push Taiwan into a dangerous situation of military conflict,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Lin Jian, said when addressing the sanctions at a daily briefing.
The sanctions were announced as Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te reportedly held phone calls with U.S. congressional leaders on Thursday while visiting Guam, his second U.S. stop on a Pacific Island trip.
China, which considers Taiwan a renegade province, opposes any official interaction between the island’s government and the United States.
The U.S. is the main overseas supplier of arms for Taiwan’s defence, and has naval and air force bases on Guam.
During the briefing, Lin also reiterated that China had no comment on the stunning-but-brief imposition of martial law by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday night, saying it was the “internal affairs” of the country.
Lin added that China’s position towards the Korean Peninsular “remains unchanged” when asked about the country’s views on the impact of the declaration on the peninsular situation.
Separately, Lin refuted forced labour claims in China when asked about a recent BBC report alleging Italian tomato purees sold by several UK supermarkets contain tomatoes "grown and picked in China using forced labour."
China has denied allegations of arbitrary detention and forced labour in the far western region of Xinjiang.
