6. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yousef Sabbah, resident in Nabatiyeh:
“This idea came to me not now, it was since 2006 and before the war of 2006 we knew that anyone whose house is destroyed, he built a tent and live in it because we as the people of the South (Lebanon) are known of our love to the land and the homeland. We built this tent as per the calls of the speaker Nabih Berri to live on the rubble, we built this tent to confirm to the enemy that we love our homeland, land and soil. While on the other part (Israel), on the enemy side and his environment, they are paying them money to return to the north and they do not because it is not their land, not their homeland. Here is our homeland and the land of our fathers and grandfathers, our grandfathers grew up in it, we also did and will not leave it as we paid a high price for it, it costs us a lot of blood.”

9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yousef Sabbah, resident in Nabatiyeh:
“A day before the house was flattened, I was here then I left to see my family who were displaced outside this area. As you know you cannot let children live here in the stress as they were not accustomed, and they have not experienced wars before, in 2006 I got the first son. We are used (to war), I was here then gone on Saturday before noon time to deliver clothes as it became cold, so I came back to grab the clothes and my wife asked me to stay (with them) and to go back next day (to Nabatiyeh). I told her fine no problem, so I slept there. Then on Sunday I found a better house which I moved my family to, aiming to get back (to Nabatiyeh) on Monday morning. On Monday, they (Israelis) hit the house at 05:00am, at 07:00 am I got a call from the (Islamic) Health Association, thinking I was in the house. I answered the call and they asked me ‘where are you?’ I told them I am outside Nabatiyeh, they told me your house has been flattened. I told them, ‘God willing, it will pass’. I closed the line and went back to sleep. I was asleep, woke up then went back to sleep, took the issue as normally as I could.”

11. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yousef Sabbah, resident in Nabatiyeh:
“The family is upset, as they lost the house, their memories, they grew up in it and they say ‘here they lived, here they ran, here they studied’ they were affected, now they are accustomed as they came here and saw on the ground what happened. They were relieved when they found out that we will start rebuilding it soon.”

STORYLINE:
A resident of southern Lebanon erected a tent on the rubble of his flattened house, a week after the tenuous ceasefire between Hezbollah militants and Israel began.
Yousef Sabbah, a 63-year-old resident in the southern city of Nabatiyeh, lost his home when it was flattened by an Israeli airstrike during the war.
He said the idea of the tent was not new for him, as he remembered a speech by Lebanese speaker of the house Nabih Berri after the 2006 bruising monthlong war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Berri then asked the displaced to return to their villages and build tents over the ruins of destroyed houses.
