Video posted to social media shows people inside Bashar al-Assad’s presidential palace in Damascus on Sunday, after rebel forces in Syria overtook the capital and declared victory against Assad’s regime.
Assad "decided to leave the presidential post and left the country, giving instructions to transfer power peacefully," Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. Russia and Iran were the two most important foreign backers of Assad’s government. –––
