STORYLINE:
With less than a month until Christmas, celebrations are ramping up.
From dazzling Christmas trees to Santa delivering presents, people are eager to enjoy the holiday spirit.
Lisbon has kicked off the holiday season with its traditional tree lighting ceremony at the Praça do Comercio in the city’s downtown.
Thousands of locals and tourists attended the ceremony, taking photographs and selfies and enjoying the festivities.
In Madrid, twelve-million LEDs will light up the streets and squares over the next 40 days as the city celebrates the Christmas holidays.
Fireworks were set off next to the massive Christmas tree.
In Paris, the Christmas lights were switched on along the famous Champs-Elysees with fireworks at the Arc de Triomphe.
A spectacular park crammed with iconic images sculptured in festive lights has opened in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Installations include a twinkling hot air balloon, illuminated airplanes and a light replica of India’s Taj Mahal.
It’s the second year this winter wonderland of light and music has been held here.
Since 1943, the people of Appalachian Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee have looked forward to Santa’s arrival.
Not in a sleigh on their rooftops, but on a train.
The Santa Train marks its 82nd running this year, bringing presents and joy to small towns along a 110-mile portion of the CSX rail line tucked into remote coal-country river valleys.
In Washington, First Lady Jill Biden took delivery of the official White House Christmas tree that is destined to go on display in the Blue Room.
Jill Biden thanked the Cartner family, from North Carolina, for the Fraser Fir.
Their tree farm was devastated by Hurricane Helene in late September.
