"I can say that Omer Neutra is an American. And as far as an American, Sagui (Dekel-Chen), as well, is an American. And so we know the family very well as we met them every time we met with the administration in the US, as well as (US Secretary of State, Antony) Blinken’s visits in Israel and we know them closely and we know they never thought this is the news they were going to get. They always believed he was alive. They always believe he was going to come back. And now this news is extremely terrible."

"So we are here in the science museum in Jerusalem to raise an air balloon to really make it very visual that, lets say, that we have to really go and bring them back, and bring them back now, and we want all the Knesset members and the government members to really see that every day from the window, every time they think they can do, go, by their own daily activities, to really see that and see that we need them back home."

"There was no sign of life throughout this but the way he (Omer Neutra) was taken with other people, we assumed he was still alive with the people he was taken (with). So we were very hopeful. We’re not sure why suddenly this news is coming. There must be some intelligence that came over and broadcast this news, but it’s extremely terrible. And we wish his family to really be strong and get through this hard period because he’s still in Gaza, although we know he’s dead, he’s still in Gaza. So we’re looking forward to bring him back as well."

STORYLINE:
Hostage families reacted with "shock" on Monday following an announcement by the Israeli military that an Israeli-American soldier who was believed to have been taken hostage on October 7, 2023 was now presumed to have been killed during Hamas’ attack and his body taken into Gaza.
Omer Neutra, 21, was a New York native who enlisted in the Israeli military and was captured when Hamas attacked southern Israel.
Neutra’s parents, Ronen and Orna, led a public campaign while he was thought to be alive for their son’s freedom.
They spoke at protests in the U.S. and Israel, addressed the Republican National Convention this year and kept up ties with the Biden administration in their crusade to secure their son’s release.
In a statement announcing the death, the military did not say how it came to the conclusion over Neutra’s fate.
He was one of seven American Israelis still held in Gaza, four of whom are now said to be dead.
Gilat Fisch, aunt of Sagui Dekel-Chen, who was taken from Nir Oz on October 7, said hostage families campaigning for their loved ones to be released were in shock following the announcement.
